Hello, I am the Special Educational Needs Leader at Brockwell Junior School. I champion the area to ensure all children are happy, well supported and achieve to the best of their ability, especially those with special, individual needs. I work with a fantastic, dedicated team of support staff who understand our shared goals. You can contact me after school most days or contact me at a mutually convenient time through the school office 01246 278542.
All Derbyshire Local Authority (LA) maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and are supported by the LA to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.
At Brockwell, we strive to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible. The four broad ‘areas of need’ are Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, and Sensory and Physical Needs.
Many staff are experienced in supporting children and delivering interventions in the school day. These include programmes for Specific Learning Difficulties, Read Write Inc phonic intervention, ‘Same Day’ Maths intervention, ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support) and Nurture Support.

Procedure for expressing concerns and making informal and formal complaints about the support provided by Brockwell Junior School for your child if they have Special Educational Needs.(SEN)
We believe that Brockwell Junior School continuously aspires to deliver excellent, personalised education for all of our children regardless of any SEN or disability. We work very hard to build positive relationships with all involved in our school community. However, the School is obliged to have procedures in place in case there are complaints about the support provided for a child who has Special Educational Needs.
If you have a concern about the support your child is receiving in school we strongly encourage you to make an appointment with your child’s class teacher to discuss this concern. If you feel your concern has not been resolved please do make an appointment with Mrs Crutchley who will endeavour to support you.
If, after liaison with the school, you still feel dissatisfied with the support your child is receiving you may choose to make an informal or formal complaint.
If you would like to make a complaint we would refer you to our school Complaints Policy in our policy section, which outlines the complaints process.
